September 3 – October 2, 2024 · Eastport
About the data
The sea in the model is a flat surface at the measured water level, and the ground is the surveyed elevation. Both are referenced to the same vertical datum, NAVD88, so they can be compared directly. There is no flow model: the shoreline is simply where the two heights meet.
- Water level
- NOAA CO-OPS station 8410140, Eastport, Maine. Verified six-minute observations and harmonic predictions, September 3 to October 2, 2024 (UTC), in meters above NAVD88.
- Ground
- NOAA NCEI Continuously Updated Digital Elevation Model (CUDEM), 1/9 arc-second topobathymetry, tiles n45x00_w067x25 and n45x00_w067x00, resampled to a 5 m grid. NAVD88 meters.
- Place
- A 2.8 × 2.0 km area at South Lubec, about 8 km south of the gauge. The tide there arrives within minutes of Eastport’s and with nearly the same range, but it is not measured on site.
- Scale
- Heights are drawn eight times taller than true until the “True scale” chapter. The gauge chart beside the model uses the same vertical scale as the model.
